Reiki
Offering from Sherille Marquez
“Each and every being has an innate ability to heal as a gift from the gods.”
– Mikao Usui, the Founder of Reiki (1865-1926)
Energy therapy is a very important part of alternative medicine (also referred to as “integrative” or “alternative” medicine). It is based on the idea that since the body is a manifestation of human energy, disharmony in the energy field will cause disease in the body. If the human energy field is out of balance, the body will be out of balance. One system of energy therapy is called Reiki.

What is Reiki?
The word “Reiki” (pronounced ray-key) is the Japanese word for Universal Life Force Energy. It is believed to have originated in ancient Tibetan Buddhist teachings several thousand years ago and was rediscovered in Japan by Mikao Usui in the mid 1800’s. Reiki is the beautiful and loving life force energy that surrounds and embodies all living things. When we experience stress, pain, illness or worry, our energy often becomes unbalanced. Reiki is a holistic healing system that utilizes specific hands-on techniques for restoring and balancing the natural life force energy flow within the body. It aids in healing by helping you become energetically balanced physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually.
How Does Reiki Work?
Reiki practitioners act as a conduit between the recipient and the source of the Universal Life Force Energy. The energy flows through the practitioner’s hands to the recipient through gentle touch. The hands are lightly placed on or near the body in various positions around the head, shoulders, stomach, and feet. Sometimes a practitioner will also treat above the body. Reiki helps to restore and balance the energy allowing the body to better heal itself.
The recipient of Reiki is an active participant during their session. They do this by setting an intention to being open to receive whatever they might need most from the session. The Reiki practitioner is trained to facilitate the flow of energy and does not dictate or manipulate it, but instead allows it to go where it is needed.
